Entry definition

čuka
etymology 1 From Proto-Slavic *čuka. Compare Lithuanian čiùkaras, dialectal Bulgarian чукара 〈čukara〉 and dialectal Serbian чу̀кара 〈čùkara〉. According to some others, the word is borrowed from pre-Slavic substratum due to the fact that it's absent in western Slavdom. However, Albanian çukë is not a vestige of Illyrian, but a borrowing from Slavic. pronunciation
